Wine coolers that are placed in a basement or garage environment should have more insulation and more powerful cooling system than is normally found in a wine cooler.  

it is not recommended that glass door units be placed in this environment either.  This is due to the relatively higher amount of heat that can pass through a glass door compared to a solid one.

Vinotemp offers two solutions to the garage/basement need.  One is the VinoCellier Series of wine cabinets made in European.  The other is the Vinotemp Economy, Reserve and Sonoma Series wine cabinets.  In these series you can choose a larger capacity cooling system and a higher R factor.  It is recommended that you choose an upgrade of, at least, one level on each.
